Britt's Surgery

2/11/09 ~ Britt's surgery ended up taking 3 hours instead of the 2 they thought. They took a bunch of bone from his knee to fill in where they fused his ankle. They also cut off a bunch of bone spurs and got rid of a bunch of arthritis that was there. Put in a screw through the bottom of his foot and one through the top as well. He is in a split cast and we go back to SLC next Tuesday where they will put him in a cast for 4 weeks. I really am glad we were referred to Dr. Saltzman. He really knows his stuff and he is so personable but professional at the same time. Britt told him that he had the worlds most annoying wife when it comes to him driving and me complaining. Well Dr. Saltzman told him that HE had the worlds most annoying wife and so I had to be the 2nd most annoying wife. It was so funny. Anyways, I feel it really makes a difference when a doctor treats you like everyone else and not like you are just another patient who he collects money on. He told us that everything went really well and he doesnt see any reason why Britt wont make a full recovery. He of course will lose some mobility in his ankle but will be able to run after the boys again.
They put a nerve block with a cathedar (kinda like an epidural) in the back of his leg to help with the pain.
It was time to take it out. Well he pulled it out himself and it just kept coming and coming and coming out. Finally when he got it out it was at least 8 inches long. SICK!!
It came out just above the bruise you see and to the right a couple inches. If you look close you can see the red dot. So gross, but definately worth not having a lot of pain.
So this is what has been going on in our house lately :) Lots of 'riding the couch' as Britt puts it.

siblings

Keyton says: " Don't sit on me Kaycen, I'm not a jungle gym! " Hmmm... wonder where he heard that one?!! Keyton has been going up and down on behavior lately. One week or month for that matter he is such a good kid. Then the next he is into everything and lately his mouth has become bad. He's not swearing but just calling names and saying boy stuff like " I am gassy, burping at the dinner table (which he says he learned that from his cousin Jeron :)) because lately its always someone elses fault too. The hardest part about Keyton acting this way is that Kaycen picks right up on it and mimics every move and thing he says. So when punishing Kaycen he just laughs at us because Keyton laughs when he gets into trouble. Siblings can be so good in so many ways, and teach bad habits too. What do you do? Lately I have just felt like... I guess it could be worse and am tired of punishing and yelling that seem to get nowhere. I think I am going to take a Mommy break today.. is that even allowed?!

Craft Night, robot man, lovies & honkin' nose

I put together our first craft night. We made burlap wreaths. They turned out SO cute. I wish I had taken pics of them all. There were red, red & black, natural, and white ones. I made a quick smaller white one with red burlap hanger. Here is a pic. I am kinda sad, the picture just doesnt give it justice. I bought enough burlap to make an Idaho Potato one and then just change the ribbons for the holidays/seasons. Craft ranged from $3.50-$6.00 depending on which color of burlap and ribbon you used.
We had gone to Sam's Club the other night and had some cereal boxes left over. The kids always play with them before they get thrown in the garbage. This is what Keyton came up with...
ROBOT MAN!!
So I have really been slacking on taking Kaycen's bink away during the day. If I see it on the floor I will pick it up and put it away. He really only asks for it when he is hurt, sad, or going to sleep. But since he got the flu the other week I have not been so good about making sure its put up. Keyton has his 'lanky' and at least he will leave it behind. But I am thinking that this binkie breaking is going to worse on me then on Kaycen. :)
It snowed a little today and it was wet snow. The kids and I just couldnt stand to be inside any longer and since Kaycen woke up early from his nap we bundled up and went outside. After pulling them around on the sled for awhile, knocking the ice cycles off the house and shoveling the sidewalk we decided to make a little snowman. The pic above is Kaycen's contribution.

Keyton said its a "Kaycen's size snowman"

Keyton didnt like the little stick nose we had on there first, so he traded it
for this "Honkin' Nose" as he says.

Kaycen's recent stats

I took Kaycen in to get a well-child check Jan. 27th. Which he is 19 months 2 weeks old (just a little bit late for his 18 month check ;) Here is his stats..

Weight ~ 22 pounds 10 ounces ~ 8th percentile for his age
Height ~ 32 1/4 inches ~ 38th percentile
Head ~ 18 1/2 ~ 23rd percentile

He just took a growth spurt, so maybe he will start to fill in a little ;) He copies EVERYTHING Keyton does and is way more daring than Keyton. He is saying so many words now and I love the fact that I can understand almost everything he wants/needs. Still loves his binkie. Britt says it will come up missing one of these days, but it really does save me from a meltdown when both kids are grouchy and having their own meltdowns ;) But he only gets it at naptime and bedtime mostly. Loves to play outside in the snow until his fingers are frozen solid. Is a little Mommy's boy that I just soak in because I know this phase will end. Has the sweetest personality and loves to help me clean. I just love his little personality of how he really cares about you and what you are doing. Love this kid! My baby is growing up!
